RAW 2022 CFP 2022 Workshop on Resource AWareness of Systems and Society

2022 Workshop on Resource Awareness of Systems and Society

2022 RAW aims at bringing together researchers and engineers from academia and industry to discuss solutions, but also open problems in the area of resource-aware computing, in all the aspects it entails, starting from classical resource trade-offs, but also incorporating novel concepts, such as development time and effort, resilience or sustainability over product or process life cycles.

The RAW workshop aims to establish a discussion forum, grounded in the formal submission, review, and publication of workshop papers, discussing early scientific findings and their application in resource-aware computing. To this end, we are looking for papers and presentations about resource measurement, monitoring, controlling, and the multi-objective trade-offs that are applicable in the different domains and sectors. We look for experience reports, industrial case studies as well as early and preliminary research results that may later appear as full papers at focused or multidisciplinary conferences, such as ICT4S, or in journals. We aim at establishing and improving interaction and cooperation between scientists, researchers, innovators, and practitioners from all related sectors and domains that are concerned about the need for more aware resource utilization in systems and society in general. The workshop welcomes presentations on state-of-the-art, early ideas, work in progress, preliminary results, case studies, industrial cases, and open problems, but also mature results in the form of research results, innovations, reports, or demonstrations. Presentation topics might relate to any kind of resources (time, energy, space, data, effort, etc) and their utilization in the development and usage of systems in our environment. Presentations should refer to techniques involved in resource measurement, monitoring, controlling, and trade-offs including the full scope of techniques from background theory to the application of innovative solutions in different domains. Finally, we welcome all aspects of mentioned techniques such as education, training, research innovation, and practice.

RAW originates from an introductory workshop of the Cost Action CERCIRAS CA19135 and will be supported for the duration of the action, but with the clear objective for the workshop to continue beyond the action.

The 2022 RAW Workshop will be co-located with ICT4S 2022 conference.

Scope

Topics of interest are associated with any kind of resources (time, energy, space, data, effort, etc) and their usage in development and usage by systems in our environment. Thus, the list of topics includes but is not limited to the following:

  • resource utilization measuring, estimation, trade-offs
  • resource-aware systems design and implementation
  • tools supporting resource-aware designs incl. programming languages, virtual machines, code analyzers
  • resource awareness of technologies, tools, and techniques
  • resource-aware economy, aligning incentives for resource awareness and cost-benefit trade-offs
  • economy and management in resource awareness
  • education and training in all the above topics of interest

Submission Guidelines

All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference. The following paper categories are welcome:

  • Short papers describing preliminary research results and discussion of new ideas. Short papers shall be between 2 and 3 pages long.
  • Full papers envisioned for main workshop submissions, elaborating on mature research with solid results. Full papers shall be between 6 and 8 pages long.

Authors are expected to use the IEEE template (the same as in the main track of the ICT4S 2022  conference). There is no page limit for references, and they are excluded from page limits. Reviews will be single-blind (anonymous reviewers) and each paper will be reviewed by 3 reviewers. The acceptance decision will be based on consensus among all Program Committee members. Upon the acceptance of the paper by the Program Committee, the authors are expected to produce a camera-ready version, incorporating the suggestions of the Program Committee. We require that at least one author of each accepted paper register for the RAW workshop and will be physically present at the workshop to present the paper (assuming, the physical presence is possible).
